The first leg of a 750+ mile circular cycling route taking in the Camino Frances and the Camino Norte.

Day 1: Santander to Alceda
We parked at the long stay airport car park and were quickly into hills to the south of the town. The track takes you along a disused train line through beautiful countryside.
This route runs along several river valleys so there are a few ups and downs.
40km / 300m uphill

Day 2: Alceda to Santelices
Continuing through the valleys to the beautiful and ancient town of Santelices. For the final stretch we joined up with one of the Vias Verdes - old train lines being converted into cycle routes. These were under construction in a lot of places, but a lot of the work has been done. Check their website for current status!
46km / 858m uphill

Day 3: Santelices to Trespederme
The Via Verde was awesome cycling until we hit parts under construction which forced a few revisions to the route. Landscape was stunning.
Trespederme is a bit of a dull town, but a good place to stop before the long slog over to Burgos... or so we thought!
45km / 50m uphill

Trespederme to Burgos
Our route was supposed to take us along the Via Verde to Poza de la Sal and down a long steady slope into the beautiful city of Burgos. Unfortunately it was closed so our hotel arranged a van to take the three of us (with bikes and bags).
No cycling today!
